HIGHLAND REGION (THE ANDES)

Ayarachi
El origen de esta Danza Ayarachi, se ubica en el Periodo Transicional y Violento de la Conquista Española. Se ejecuta exclusivamente en los Pueblos Cordilleranos Quechuas de las Montañas de Paratía en la Provincia de Lampa Departamento de Puno.

En los últimos Decenios de este Siglo se presenta en el pueblo de Lampa. El Ayarachi no ha incursionado en otras provincias y no a llegado aún ala fiesta de la candelaria en Puno.

El Signo Ritual imprime el acento de la Música Lúgubre que parece al propio tiempo un quejido y una protesta. La presentación de la Danza es muy Severa, Majestuosa y Ritual, que ofrece un impresionante espectáculo, hay severidad en los atuendos, en el ritmo que le sirve el Fondo Musical y en la apostura de los Danzantes.
Waca Waca
It is a colonial origin dance that satirizes Spanish Bullfighting Feast in its meaning and movements of its characters as: a Bull, two or more bullfighter, lassoer or Chileno, Arrastrador (a place from where the dead bull is taken out), Puntillero (bullfighter who administer the coup de grace with the puntilla), salteador or garrocha, two Maqt’as and a Chola Lechera (dairy Chola).

Everybody move in time to the paso doble and special walk, its musical setting is the whistle, drum, bass drum. They imitate the brave party, one of the members dressed in white (Bull) with black string mask and with a cushion pinned on the back, bears a figure that represent the bullfighting.
The other characters that play their roles in the bullfighting go over the streets in Indian file performing bullfighting moves which with craftiness and vivacity focus observer attention. The cuadrilla (team of matador’s assistants) moves in very distinguished 8 moments.
Chonguinada
It is one of the most beautiful dances of the valley that comes from Chongos town when it was at the peak; today, it is a district created in 1907. It seems a satirical distortion of the Minue Frances which was danced by noble class in the colony.

Generally it is danced in the month of May for Cross Celebrations or in the Patron Saint’s day of Junin Department towns. Ten partners dance accompanied by two or three chutos (children) who made observer burst out laughing due to their performance.
They wear beautiful color costumes different for each occasion with embroidered clothes and fronts with silver coins; they dance elegantly and with agility to the sound of the melodic music of a typical orchestra.
