HIGHLAND REGION (THE ANDES)

Huaylash Moderno
It is a typical agricultural character dance of Huancayo city and in the south of that province where every year it is danced on the occasion of the Carnival Feast.

It is a dance of young people who dressed the typical costume of the Wanca dance with energy on the streets and squares.

Here, the man shows his virility, strength and energy accompanied by cries with which he tries woman falls in love with him and she respond to it gentle and cheerfully.
In this dance, the vests, skirts, (pettitcoat) and blankets or Llicllas finely embroidered by Wancas hands are notable.

At the present, it is danced with typical harmonized orchestras as musical setting of this beautiful dance, Peru and Wanca national heritage.
Kiñuta Pukllay
Panoramically, this dance represents the custom of the Pukllay or Quiñota District Carnival, Chumbivilcas Province, Cusco Department; during this dance, young people of both sex radiating joy fall in love to undertake the cohabitation or “Sirvinacuy’’.

The Pinkullos or Lawatas of Carnival are used in this dance accompanied by the bass drum and the drum.
Qanchi
It is a dance concerning the agricultural of Marangani District, Canchis Province, Cusco Department. This dance is performed in all Canchis areas but regularly in Marangani District classifying as the best dancers of Mamuera Community. At the present, it has over 200 choreographies and it is danced during seven months, It is not finished in one date but in several dates and with different choreographies.

Two “Varayoq’’ are the main representatives that represent the first and second semester of the agricultural year, accompanied by two young women followed by twelve men placed in two right and left columns of six each one which mean the twelve months of the year; Those who are on the left symbolizes the odd months, that is, January, March, May, July, September and November and those who are on the right symbolizes the pair months; that is, February, April, June, August, October, and December. In Marangani, It is also danced the “Q’ello Q’anchi which is the sowing of the potato, Oca, etc. In Tinta, It is danced but with young people
Qajelo
It originated with the Spaniards, Gold and Silver searchers who made their ascent by the Andes with their inseparable horse; Qajelo is the man who lives in the inhospitable environment breaking in wild colts and winning Andean women. This dance represents Mountain and Faithful Love Expression until the death. It also symbolizes the daily struggle for survival in the rough Punas (High Andean Plateau). The music is performed with a small five stringed guitar.
