Wari Culture

GEOGRAPHICAL SITUATION:
It is situated at 25 km. in the northwest of Ayacucho City (Department of Ayacucho) in the district of Quinua (province of Huamanga) at a height of 2830 m above sea level.

PERIOD:
Middle Horizon.


AGE:
From 600 to 1200 A.C.

DISCOVERY:
It was discovered by Guillermo Kumbreras in 1696.

TERRITORIAL EXTENSION:
In the North, it began in the department of La Libertad (Rio Moche) and in the South, it began from Arequipa City going through the south departments until the Cusco City.

MAIN CHARACTERISTICS:
MAIN EXPRESSIONS OF ITS CULTURE:
CERAMICS:
Anthropomorphic or zoomorphic vessels (canteros and keros)
It was polychrome (black, white, cream, red and brown)
It is a combination of Nazca ceramic with Tiahuanaco ceramic.
It had motifs: geometric, naturalistic, presence of God on the Portal.


AGRICULTURE:
They had the town planner process; for example, Conchopata, Ñauinpuquio, Wari, Cajamarcaquilla, Pikillacta, Pachacamac, Huiracochapampa.

TEXTIL ART:
They used wool of llamas, alpacas, etc (auquenido animals).
They used tapestries of great beauty and color.
